This program is about more than just teaching. You’ll bring your voice, your experiences, and your perspective into American clasrooms. It’s a two-way journey of growth.
-
Why do exchanges work?
We encourage our teachers to bring their authentic selves to their classrooms, enriching students and fellow teachers alike with their unique cultural perspectives. You’ll step into the role of an international educator, sharing your expertise while learning from a different education system.
The numbers don’t lie - the “role model” effect is real. Students perform better when they are taught by a diverse subset of teachers. In developing more representative classrooms, we hope to improve educational outcomes for our country.
As you share your cultural insights with students, we hope you gather American insights to bring back to classrooms in your home country.
-
How will I be supported?
You will not be alone on your journey. Wonderlink strives to help you optimize every aspect of your new life in the United States. We help you bring your spouses and children with you if applicable on your exchange on accompanying J-2 visas. Our localized mentorship program connects you with fellow current and former immigrant teachers in your region to give you a support system to lean on.
Our pre-arrival protocol provides the practical support you need to transition seamlessly into your new life. We want you to focus on what you do best—educating students.
We hope your personal fulfillment matches your professional development. This is not just a job, it is an adventure and a chance to live a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Where will I live?
Our initial placement regions are Minnesota and New York - both ranked among the Top 15 states for PreK – 12 public education by U.S. News & World Report. Both Minnesota and New York have developed strong momentum with J-1 exchange teachers in recent years, proving the efficacy of international teachers in both states.
New York (NYC and Upstate NY)
New York is a mosaic of neighborhoods, languages, and school models. New York City comprises five boroughs, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island, each with its own rhythm. Expect walkable, transit-first living, schools that serve students from hundreds of language backgrounds, and deep professional networks for new teachers. Housing costs run high, so many teachers share apartments or live in outer-borough neighborhoods with easier commutes. Upstate NY offers a different pace with real seasons and room to breathe. The city of Buffalo mixes lakefront parks, classic architecture, legendary chicken wings, and fiercely loyal Buffalo Bills football fans who turn game days into citywide celebrations. Rochester pairs a serious music and festival scene, anchored by the Eastman School and the Strong Museum, with quick commutes and access to the beautiful Finger Lakes. Across the state, international teachers find welcoming diaspora communities and classrooms that value culturally responsive teaching and multilingual learning.Minnesota (Minneapolis and Saint Paul)
Minnesota blends outdoor life with an arts-first culture that feels friendly and community driven. Minneapolis and Saint Paul (The Twin Cities) are stitched together by lakes, river trails, and bike paths, so you can finish a school day and be in a canoe or on a running path in minutes. The Twin Cities arts scene features the Guthrie Theater, the Walker Art Center, live music venues, and neighborhood festivals nearly year-round. Food reflects the people who live here, from Hmong markets on University Avenue to Somali cafes, Scandinavian bakeries, and a growing East African and Latin scene. Winters are cold, communities are prepared, and people lean into it with winter carnivals, ice skating, hockey, and sauna culture. Schools are collaborative and student centered, and they value the cross-cultural skills international teachers bring. -
